Vintage clothing and vinyl records mark the last recreational marijuana store near Ferris State University

BIG RAPIDS, MI – Another recreational marijuana dispensary has opened in Big Rapids, this one offering vintage clothing for sale and a lounge area where patrons can listen to cannabis-related bands.

Skymint Big Rapids, near the Ferris State University campus at 840 Clark Street, opened Thursday, June 17 to adult marijuana customers.

The new location is the 10th licensed recreational dispensary in Big Rapids and the 13th in Skymint, Michigan.

“Skymint Big Rapids represents the culmination of our promise to create an enhanced retail experience that brings consumers into our world and inspires them to want to stay and explore,” said Summer Ransom-Cleveland, President of Retail by Skymint.

“Skymint doesn’t just sell the best cannabis Michigan has to offer; we sell and run a lifestyle that elevates the way people think and talk about cannabis. Starting in fall 2021, we look forward to hosting in-store community events that bring together the worlds of cannabis, fashion, food and music. “

Skymint Big Rapids offers over 60 brands of cannabis products, including Grammy-winning rap artist’s GKUA brand flower. The store offers marijuana blossoms, pre-rolled joints, edibles, concentrates, vapes, herbal teas, and CBD products.

An eighth of an ounce of marijuana flower is priced between $ 25 and $ 60 depending on the variety. Until June 26, customers can receive 30% off most THC products to celebrate the store opening.

But more than cannabis offerings, the Big Rapids dispensary also has vintage clothing to browse and buy and a space where people can sit and listen to vinyl records from bands with “historical links to cannabis,” the company said.

“At SKYMINT, we strongly believe that cannabis is helping change the world, helping to improve lives, and is ultimately part of a rising tide that lifts all boats,” said Jeff Radway, CEO of Skymint Brands. “We currently have nearly 500 employees in Michigan, we have invested almost $ 100 million in the state and, most importantly, we have invested in local communities.

“We are thrilled to be a part of Big Rapids and thrilled to be a part of Mecosta County. We are going to be great neighbors and long term supporters of this community. “

Skymint has recreation clinics in Ann Arbor, Bay City, East Lansing, Flint, Hazel Park, Nunica, Portage, White Cloud and two in Lansing. The company also has a medical marijuana supply center in Newaygo.

“I think it’s pretty clear from what has just been said that the level of investment in the community is important and will grow,” Big Rapids Mayor Mark Warba said. “We are pleased to welcome a company that is not only willing to make this investment in tax matters, but also in human capital and the community.

“I like what (Jeff) said about believing the product is going to change the world.”

Throughout June, designated as Pride Month to celebrate and recognize the contributions of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community, customers can take prideful selfies in-store and Post them on social media with the hashtag # skymintpride.

For every selfie posted, Skymint will donate $ 2 to Fair and Equal Michigan. Fair and Equal Michigan is a campaign to protect LGBTQ Michiganders from discrimination by amending the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to include “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” on the class list protected.
