Police officers warn of apps and websites that offer loans
Aizawl: That Mizoram Police have warned people about mobile applications and websites offering online loans.
A police statement said several complaints have been received in the recent past against fraudsters who have been offering online loans through mobile apps and websites.
There have also been many complaints of harassment by recovery workers.
The statement states that scammers have given small amounts of credit through such mobile apps and websites.
Even after the borrowers paid the amount, the debt collectors harassed the borrowers and demanded that they pay back the amount because the first payment failed, sources said.
At times, the debt collection officer blackmailed the borrowers with their personal information, which they accessed during the installation of the mobile apps, it said.
Noting that such apps could be dangerous and deceptive, the police statement said the scammer or company was seeking access to users’ personal information at the time of installation.
It urged the public not to use such applications and not avail such online loans.
It further urged people to be aware of the risk and not to give permission or access to personal information while installing mobile apps.
