PUMP : Sunnei founders Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo aim to breathe fresh air into retail with their latest ironic initiative: an inflatable pop-up format.
Focused on the celebration of Milanese brand Labauletto and Lacubetto’s “It” bags, the pop-up concept was born from the duo’s idea of having a versatile installation that was easy to ship and reuse, as it was meant to travel to worldwide.
Messina and Rizzo commissioned the project from trendy design collective Parasite 2.0, who came up with a light silver shape reminiscent of a stone and hollowed out to feature small niches displaying the colorful accessories. The traveling installation, aptly called “Lapietra”, which translates to “the rock” in English, will make its debut this week at GR8 in Tokyo, before moving to Univers d’homme et femme stores in Manila, Philippines, and Block in Hangzhou, China.
Although the pop-up project mainly targets Asia, which is a key market for the brand, the installation will also reach the United States and Europe, before finishing its tour in July in Milan in the first house. of Sunnei, the flagship of Via Vela that served as the brand’s headquarters when the company started.
First introduced in 2019, the Labauletto Rectangular Leather Bag with Adjustable Shoulder Strap retails for $1,077 and comes in classic black and navy as well as vibrant hues of azure, orange and acid green. Rendered in the same palette, which also includes beige, white and mustard tones, the cubic Lacubetto option is priced at $835.
