Redress Design Award 2022 Photo shoot

The Redress Design Award is the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, organized by Redress and supported by Create Hong Kong (CreateHK) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government as the main sponsor.

Titled ‘Repackaged’, the photoshoot is designed and photographed by leading Hong Kong designers Kieran Ho and The Buffacow, and is inspired by the raw aesthetic of industrial paper and cardboard packaging. The theme of the photoshoot aims both to remind us of the vast journey our clothes have taken to reach us and to show the potential for transforming textile waste into something beautiful and new, reflecting the creative heritage of the Redress Design Award for recycling waste.

As well as being featured in the print and digital editions of Redress Design Award magazine, the photo shoot will also be featured in the October 2022 sustainability issue of Vogue Hong Kong.

For the upcoming photo shoot and grand finale, the finalists’ collections were safely transported to Hong Kong using UPS’s carbon-neutral shipping service.

Next month, the forward-thinking finalists will showcase their sustainable collections on the global stage, showcasing their skills in design techniques including zero waste, recycling and rebuilding, with a focus on circular strategies. low impact design and process, low waste, longevity and recyclability. The finalists also embraced creativity and innovative thinking in their sourcing of materials, from leftover yarn collected from weaver families, to retired sarees and shawls from family closets.

An esteemed panel of international fashion industry judges, including Hong Kong’s Edwin Keh, Managing Director of the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), will evaluate the finalists’ collections for creativity, sustainability, marketability and manufacturing. The top talent who wins the top prize will receive a development fund of HK$50,000 (US$6,400) and join VF’s Timberland Sustainability and Responsibility team to collaborate on a design project, gaining a valuable experience of the entire supply chain.
